Still not convinced by Stranger With A Familiar Face, or Sequence #7, but the rest is purely amazing

FWX is an excellent album, but I still miss the fuller sound of 2 guitars. But it's a huge improvement over Disconnected.

What's up? Just got back on-line after a major PC fiasco...and I see a new forum...nice.
As much as I like "FWX", I'm still not sure if I like it better than "Disconnected". Of course APSOG remains my favorite of the Alder albums, I think I just like an epic feel in an album...love long songs. But "FWX" is great anyway...killer stuff.

Okay, I'm gonna say this: I'm gonna sell back my copy of FWX and replace it with the version they're going to make which includes Colleen duetting alongside Ray on Each tune.
No, I'm not biased or anything ;D

I went F3... some very powerful and solid tunes. I think there's really only 2 that I don't get into (Stranger and Crawl... maybe add Heal Me as well). But, honestly, I did expect more. When I heard the album was going to be heavy, I thought of the fast, heavy, technical parts of APSOG, and was hoping to get some of that. But even so, 7 out of 10 tracks are gold, and that's an amazing album. Exceeding disconnected (though Still Remains could be in my top 5 all time FW songs).

hey ,I'm new here, what's all the Disconnected bashing about?. I love that disc. FWX is great as well. Being more of a thrash man than a prog fan, I tend to like the heavier side of things

Not that they don't like it, just don't love it. I'm with you, when I put them in order...it's #4 for me. Seth

Disconnected is...well... the most disconnected album FW has ever made. 1 great song, 2 or 3 good songs, a couple of mediocre songs, and couple of snoozers. Still a pretty good album just not up to FW standards. Feels unfinished to me. When you put it up to al the great Fates Warning Albums it drops down the list for me. But it's still a pretty cool album even if I have to fast forward through So ack! ;D

While I missed out on the poll, I will add my buffalo nickel's worth I'll rate the album track by track, then as a whole: Left Here - great opener; the layered guitars are brilliant Simple Human - heavy Fates song; nice use of electronics River Wide Ocean Deep - possibly the bands' most atmospheric song ever Another Perfect Day - modern sounding, yet still 'Fates'; soft, dynamic verses add much to this song Heal Me - the most complete song on this cd; heavy section is the highlight Sequence #7 - new territory for the band (and such a cool tune) Crawl - my least favorite on this disc A Handful of Doubt - from one side of the coin to the other, this is my favorite; strong song-writing and lyrics Stranger - straight ahead rocker Wish - occasionally my favorite...hehe; Alder's best performance since Still Remains Summary: I thought FW's new cd would be good, not great. It's refreshing to see a veteran band bring back some of its earlier influences yet continue to evolve. I rate this album 8.5 out of 10.

Don't Make me Crawl inside your head... To know why Crawl is your least favorite songs on the album. It's one of my favorites. The lyrics are great, the singing powerful. True the music is a bit monotonous but powerful and driving. And ironically, without it on the album the album would be more monotonous. I love Matheos' Wailing leads. ;D I do agree that Handful of Doubt is the best song on the album. Stunning.

As much as I hate to say, the main riff of Crawl borders on sounding nu-metal. To me, the song doesn't sound like 'Fates'...I do like the leads though. You mentioned the album possibly sounding monotonous without Crawl. That's how I feel about Sequence #7. That's cool that you're also a fan of 'Handful of Doubt.'

Well to me, Nu Metal is not all bad. When it bad it's really bad though, hehe. But I just dig Ray's vocals on Crawl. And we've all had to deal with the subject matter of Crawl. To each his own. For me this album is a huge step in the right direction after Disconected though. Welcome to this, the other Fates board!
