Oh yeah, "Pale Folklore" is great...and just about all reviews say the next one is better. But this is definitely a combo of Enslaved and WoY, very dark and with a real cold windswept feeling to it...there's actually the sound of heavy wind all through the album in between tracks. The lyrics are very good as well, pretty cool stuff. I've been spinning it like crazy since Thursday, so gonna give it a bit of a break so I don't burn out on it. I would recommend it, for $10(includes shipping) on theendrecords.com/ it's well worth it... #rockin# "The Mantle" will be next. Also did another small haul this weekend, had to go to Lowes and buy some plants for the yard and of course my music store is right down the road...can't go near there without attempting to find some good deals. Got one for my wife(that I like too) Bob Segar "Nightmoves". Then I decided to pick up Live "Secret Samadhi", have always liked the hits from that album and had heard it in full a few times back when it came out...man that it is a good album, something different for me anyway. Best buy might have been The Gathering "Superheat", got a used copy for 4 bucks!... Great live album, nice mix of songs, good production...and of course Anneke!!... #wuv# Don't know why, but I'm still weary of buying some of their other albums though...the DVD is excellent and I like the newer songs, just not sure if I will as much on album. I'm sure I'll get some eventually. Seth

The End Records is the place to go! Man, they got all the good cds for dirt cheap, plus awesome customer support, etc. They're usually the first place I go to buy cds. Although, I just ordered "Solace" by Lengsel from Amazon, brand new, for $3.79 + S&H ($6.28 total). Mighty fine deal there! They're Christian technical black metal; a sort of side project from Extol's bassist. You can check out the soundclips from them on Amazon.com. Pretty good stuff if you ask me. Oh, and I may have asked this already (I forget), but anyone ever hear of Garden of Shadows? They sound pretty cool, and I've been thinking of buying their cd, but I'm curious to hear what someone who has it thinks. Any opinions would be appreciated. -Kerrick

I used to have one Garden of Shadows mp3 years ago, it was pretty good, long song like 8 or 9 min. if I remember correctly.
Don't remember too much else, I think I lost that and a bunch of other various awesome mp3s in a series of harddrive crashes/reformats
(Windows sucks).

Thanks. Yeah, I heard that like all their songs are about that long, which is cool. I like the long ones. As for Windows, I haven't had any problems with my computer (since I got SpySweeper, that is), but my poor parent's computer has had nothing but problems, and both are Microsoft. Mine's relatively new, so give it a year or two and I'm sure I'll be in the same boat... -Kerrick

Christian technical black metal, hmmm...that sounds interesting. Let us know what it's like, and that is a good deal for just about any album on amazon. I usually have good luck with them too. Haven't heard of the other band, but I'm into the epics also...longer the better(heads out of the gutter guys, talking about songs here... #ohgoon# #loldevil#). As far as the PC thing, going on 7 years with this old rust bucket...I'm happy knowing I'm getting my money out of it, but it does make me nuts sometimes. Passed on getting a new one awhile back when we probably could have, I'm bad that way...will wait till it completely dies and then get a new one... I had to wipe this one out too awhile ago, easy to do...but losing everything sucks. Seth

Seth - Wait until Vista (the next M$ op system) comes out before getting a new machine. That's scheduled for holiday season 2006 at earliest. It will demand extensive use of hardware processing an old paperweight cannot handle.
However, you could get a G5 and wait for the next Mac OS, which I hear will make "proprietary op system" an obsolete concept

Might be awhile before I can get a new one, so I'll look into that when it comes. Just hope I can limp this thing along till then... Lovin' The Gathering "Superheat", excellent live album...guess that's the only CD they did with the full sound. Would like to check out "Sleepy Buildings" sometime too.

Kerrick, I got thinking and had to go back and look to be sure...but you have mentioned not having any Opeth yet. I think as much as you like Orphaned Land that you would like them a lot too. Of course everyone will have a different opinion and pick for a starter album, and there's a big thread/poll for them here(you've likely read it)...but I don't think too many would disagree that "Blackwater Park" would be a great starting point. Just a thought... #cheers#

Yeah, I've been considering getting into those fellas. My friend has Blackwater Park and Damnation, and I liked those a lot, but nothing really grabbed me. Then again, that was a while ago (and only one listen) and my tastes have changed a bit. Maybe I'll give them another chance .

Most Opeth albums took me awhile to get into, I actually blew them off a long time ago when I d-loaded a few songs to see what they were like. Heard the growls and thought, nah...not for me. Sure was wrong and glad a friend got me into them later on, but most albums won't grab ya right away. "Damnation" actually did, but the acoustic stuff can be a little catchier usually. I went ahead and grabbed Woods of Ypres first album, wanted to be fully up to date when their new one comes out. Just got it Friday and only had chance to listen a little. Seems to have potential even with sub-par production compared to "Pursuit...", it's not real bad...but a little muddier. Will probably need a lot of time like the other.

Awesome. I'm still waiting for that Christian-Norwegein-technical-black-metal-cd to come in. Should come in any day now... but I'll tell you what I think of it once it does. There's two songs on WoY's website that you can listen to and I think they're both from their first album. I think they're both way good. If the rest of the songs are on par with those, it should be a great album!

Against the Seasons was WoY's first release, but it's more an ep/demo than an album.

Yeah, just 5 songs and about 30 minutes. First 2 tracks are the same song basically and they're pretty good, find myself listening to the drums most...Gold is an animal on that album. Again, the production isn't quite as good for the guitars...but the drums come through alright and they're very well done. The 3 songs after seem to be clicking with me quicker, more of a mixture of stuff...more clean vocals mixed in, and some excellent acoustic strumming.
Can definitely see how they progressed into "Pursuit..." from this album.
