2 albums, of course "Deep Horizon" and I had a credit at the exchange store and decided to pick something up last weekend. So, as I said in the other thread, I'll need some more time with Scott's album...sounds good so far though. Further review to come. At the store I only had enough credit for one album and they had a lot to choose from this time. I had in my hands the new Queensryche, new Evergrey, new Lacuna Coil, "Glorious Burden" from IE(again, I'll get it eventually), and a used copy of "Of Darkness" from Therion. But the one I ended up with was Clutch's self titled, even new it was only 10 bucks...so I maintained a little credit for next time. I've only got about 3 spins in and at first I thought it was totally out there, not real surprising though from what I've read. But by the last spin it was really catching on, I can see why it's rated so high by fans...odd as it is. The lyrics are again very cool, it does have almost a punk feeling to it and maybe a little Suicidal Tendencies type style here and there. But man does it rock, think it'll grow into a great one and makes me want to get everything from them eventually. Both will get more time over the weekend while doing my mounds of yardwork... #rockin# #hardrock# #cheers#

Cool cool. I saw Clutch last summer at the "Sounds of the Underground" and I'm not sure if I mentioned this in another post, but no one really liked them at that concert. I thought they were alright, but they were kind of the odd one out, being that the rest of the bands were either hardcore or heavy/death metal. And they played for WAY too long. There were a couple of people rocking out to them but everyone else was pretty bored. They're not really my type I guess, plus with Gwar and Opeth there (and Lamb of God headlining, but I'm not a huge fan of them), it was kind of hard to compete. As far as talent goes though, they were pretty good, just not at the right place... My recent haul consists of "Terra" by Cronian (which I'm listening to right now) and I just ordered Morgion's first two albums yesterday. I got my copy of "Solinari" (Morgion) for $17 w/shipping and handling from Walmart.com (new), which is selling on Amazon.com for $65 "like new!" I love big corporations. -Kerrick

I think I'm gonna end up being a 'gearhead', least I think that's what they call 'em. Aside from obviously being a major metal head, I'm also a pretty big fan of a ton of classic rock...including Southern Rock. So the southern/stoner blend into hard rock and metal is a cool sound for me, Corrosion of Conformity, Spiritual Beggars...etc...love that stuff. I think Clutch is in a class of their own though, not quite metal and with enough blues and jazz to make awesome grooves. I could see a crowd of big fans really moshing out to them, but certainly a lot of metal heads aren't going to like them. I think "Blast Tyrant" is an excellent album, and this one likely will be for me too...different as it is, BT is much more of a mature sound and the first I heard from them...so it'll be hard to beat. Been reading up on all the albums though, seems they are all very highly rated. Can't say I've heard of the ones you mentioned, I shouldn't even ask since my musical need/want list is already as long as The Great Wall...but what are they like? And what's with the one on Amazon for that much... I see out of prints for that, but obviously you wouldn't find it at Walmart if that was the case. Seth

oh yeah, the Clutch s/t is a great album. Totally unique lyrical style, as we've discussed
my recent hauls include some old Alcatrazz albums, Pure Reason Revolution's The Dark Third, Jeff Martin's (Tea Party guy, not the Racer X knucklehead) solo album, and other things.

Seth Oh, I know, I got a list too (not as long as the Great wall, but getting up there...). But Morgion is an American doom/death metal band. I have their third album ("Cloaked by Ages, Crowned in Earth") and I like it a lot, so I wanted to get their first two, which are out of print, and becoming very rare. I'm not sure why Walmart has one of them, but I'm not complaining!

Yeah, it took me a while to get into "Cloaked by Ages..." but if you're in the right mood, it's wonderful (especially when I'm up late at night working on art or something). I've heard that "Solinari" is really great as well. I've heard of November's Doom. They're supposed to be pretty good. Aren't they signed to The End Records? I might have to add them to my list (Great Wall of China, here we come!). -Kerrick

It sounds like I missed out on the best part of "Deep Horizon" at work the other day, being the last 3 tracks. Got almost 2 full listens in yesterday, "Falling Down" rocks, and "Zero Hour" seriously rocks...great song. "The Space Between Lives" has a very cool mood to it, ambient indeed...a little The Gathering type sound. As far as the rest, so far I'll stick with my original favorites...tracks 1, 4, 6, and 7. They're all good though, will get more time at work this week. Didn't get a chance to hear Clutch anymore, have some errands and a few things to haul in the truck today...so it will blast away... ;D

All of "Deep Horizon" is sounding better and better, tracks like "A Path of Pride" and "In Visible Darkness"(especially the middle to end) are growing on me a lot. I think I got track numbers and titles mixed up on an earlier post, but anyway it's all coming together. I still think the last 3rd is the best, all the instrumentation is great and does take a few listens to catch everything. I do like Scott O's vocals when he gets a bit of a growl going, like on "A Path of Pride", "Falling Down", and "Zero Hour". The soloing is really good Scott, hearing it more now that I'm just listening rather than reading along with the lyrics. Seems to be my routine with new albums, read the booklet(including liner notes and everything else) till I know it real well, then finally just let it play and it all comes together. The pictures are all really good as are the messages. I'll do a song by song type thing soon for cdbaby. Based on some things I read on line, I assume the drums were programmed even though there's not a mention of that in the booklet. If true, then they sound really good...of course I try to hear the drums sometimes more than anything else since I'm obsessed with the instrument, but I never get the feeling of programmed percussion on this album. I had forgotten that you were Indian, seems like you talked about it or I saw a pic back during the orange board days...but between the pic in the booklet and you mentioning your 'peeps' in the other thread...I remember now. Has nothing to do with anything, I just appreciate the culture...living out here I've been to a lot of Indian shops, heard a lot of music and dancing...especially when we visited The Grand Canyon... #cheers# Seth

So now on to the s/t Clutch, still a crazy, wild, and odd album for me...but I'm liking it more and more. It's clicking now that I'm not focusing so much on the lyrics, but man they are a riot..."whenever you wobble the weebles they get ticked off"...LOL! "Texan Book of the Dead" is a great song, love the way he says Kubla Khan and mantra...that dude is one crazy mother fucker. Anyone here ever met him, Ben? Probably would be cool to shoot the shit with. Both "Big News" songs are good, "Escape from the Prison Planet" and "Droid" are other highlights. Cool album overall.

Sadly, no.
Meanwhile, I gave Mosher's 3 cds which I have another airtime.
I no longer have problems with Mr Oliva's vox, but overall I prefer the Inferno cd

How's the Tool album in your opinion? I think I've read too many reviews and have been apprehensive(but I'll read another one... ). Been just picking away at some cheap used stuff at the store anyway, but I will get it soon.

Been just picking away at some cheap used stuff at the store anyway, but I will get it soon. I'm diggin the new Tool! It has a lot in common with other Tool albums so if you're a Tool fan you'll dig it. It friggin rocks, lots of rippin proggy shit! Of course it has some long trippy interludes which sometimes seem too long until you get used to them, par for the course. The songs Jambi, Pot And Rosetta Stoned are standing out to me right now, but this album is right out of the gate, I never know which Tool songs will stick until about a million glorious listens!! Dude the CD packaging is AWESOME, complete with great 3D glasses built right into the digipak! #hardrock#
