I've read about the glasses, pretty cool. It'll have to be my next purchase, when I was at the store last weekend...they were playing it. Was shortly before I left, but I heard a few songs and it sounded good. Also on the radio they've played a couple others besides "Vicarious"(that one's really growing on me)...I think it was "Pot" that really stood out, kinda reminded of older Tool. I'm sure it's very good, they haven't put out anything crappy yet.

On a slightly different note, remember when I said that I got that Morgion cd from Walmart.com, and it was $65 on Amazon? Well, I guess someone dished out 65 big ones, because I checked and it's not available there at all anymore. And to top it all off, just for kicks I checked Walmart.com to see if it's still there, and it's "out of stock!" I must have got the last one! Sorry, but I'm just real exited about what a deal I got. -Kerrick

Nothing like getting a great deal, especially on those hard to find/out of print deals. I actually may pass again on Tool this weekend, been wanting to get into Agalloch for awhile and I see theendrecords has their first for 10 bucks new...including shipping. Great deal, been reading a ton about how great they are...a US melodic black metal band. If it lives up to the hype, I'll have to get their second fairly soon before the new one comes out in August(I think?).... ;D

Big shock - I was and am a big Aggy fan (and their other band too, Sculptured) as is Fox, of all people.

Yeah, I've hear they're real good. Actually, I was going to buy Agalloch's cds, then I came across "Cloaked by Ages, Crowned in Earth" by Morgion, and decided to get that instead. Has anyone heard of Woods of Ypres? They're similar to Agalloch, but black metal instead of doom/death. They got real nice acoustic passages, then BAM! it's blasting black metal, but melodic. And somehow they pull it off real good. -Kerrick

I haven't got the first album from Woods of Ypres yet, but have had "Pursuit..." for some time and love it. There's a thread about them here, that one took a little while to fully click with me...but that album is amazing. They also have a new one due in the fall sometime. I kinda thought from what I read about Agalloch that they might be similar to WoY, gonna find out soon...

Ahh, I found the other thread about WoY, so I won't waste space here talking about them anymore. I still haven't been able to listen to my Morgion cds though, since I had them shipped back home instead of my place here in college, since I didn't want them to arrive after I left, but school's almost over and I'll be home soon. I can't wait though. So frustrating! -Kerrick

Just made my first purchase from The End Records, don't know why I haven't tried them sooner. Great site, easy and good deals on a ton of stuff. I'm gonna have to lock myself out of my PC now, dammit!... Anyway, got Agalloch "Pale Folklore"...can't wait to see what all the hype's about. #rockin# #hardrock#

Hey Seth, get that Agalloch cd yet? I'm curious what you think of it. Oh man, is "Solinari" awesome. It's so good. Very epic and dark, but with a little speck of a glimmer of hope. "Among Majestic Ruin" is pretty good too, but "Solinari" just blew me away. I highly suggest it to anyone that remotely likes doom metal, and who can find it, being of its rare nature. -Kerrick

I got a shipment notice email from them yesterday, expecting it tomorrow or next day. That "Solinari" sounds good, what kind of vocals? Think you said it was death metal, a mix of death and doom? Some of these combinations of styles really work well.

The vocals are some of the throatiest death metal I have ever heard, although there's some whispering too. It's probably one of the darkest cds I own, and INTENSE. Dang, song #4 starts out with these acoustic guitars and whispering and builds and builds, until it just crashes over you with the most brutal, tortured death metal singing ever (well, maybe not EVER, but you know...) and heavily distorted guitars. It's impossible to describe, but I definitely suggest checking it out. -Kerrick

That sounds pretty good, I'm still somewhat limited on how much death metal I own and am thoroughly familiar with...but I've been thinking that Kobi's vocals from Orphaned Land are some of the growliest, almost sounds like an animal sometimes.
I did get my Agalloch album in the mail Thursday, had yesterday off work and drove out to my mother in laws(50 minutes each way) to put up a block wall for my wife's stepdad. So I was able to get almost 2 full spins in and it has a ton of potential. It'll be a bit of a grower I think, but a lot stood out right away. I like the vocals a lot, a whispery black growl...easy on the ears. Musically, I hear some melodies that remind me of old Opeth...and a little similarity to Woods of Ypres(or the other way around probably)...mostly in the folksy sound which is very well done. I was surprised to hear some Therion influence in some of the guitar tones and then an opera style chick singing in a couple spots, sounded real cool. I'm not familiar with Ulver or old Katatonia yet, but all reviews I've read mention them as influences.
Production-wise, it could be better and I've also read that their second album(which I'll be sure to get before the new one) is much better in that department. But in my truck I was able to adjust the bass/treble and crank it up so it sounded pretty good. That may be the only complaint, it does have some extended instrumental parts that drag on a bit...but I know after I hear them enough they don't seem to drag as much. It's very dark and the musicianship appears to be top notch so far.
It'll get more time this weekend, I would recommend it for sure... #rockin# #hardrock# #cheers#

How is the new one? I've read a couple early, positive comments on bravewords. Official release is in August I think, will give me time to get "The Mantle" first.

Hmm, sounds like the Agalloch cd's pretty good. And yeah, Kobi has a great growl in Orphaned Land. Those guys are so awesome. They're what got me into death metal in the first place. Now I'm hooked!
