Is Sonata Arctica a great Power Metal Band or what. Some people don't think so , but I think they are near perfect. Them and Dragonforce are my favorites in the genre at the moment. ;D

I can give or take Dragonforce for the most part....even though there are some songs that I just love from them
But as for Sonata Arctica....damn...Ecliptica kicks my ass. I'm so addicted to the song "My Land"....I swear I love that song so much. Infact I know a perfect order of songs you need to hear if you can do it.
First you need to play Age of Wizards from Secret Sphere, then My Land from Sonata Arctica, and then Eldalindale from Elfonia.
It's a great combonation....
But anyway as for Sonata Arctica, they are amazing. I love them to death.

The only Secret Shpere disk I have is The Scent Of Human Desire. I have all of Sonata Acrtica, love them all, and this is the first I've heard of Elfonia. (Funny Name) But I'll have to see what I can do. I'm totally into Dragonforce right now. Valley of the Damned is an awesome album. They are speed demons!
I'm also getting into a band called Heavenly right now too. Pretty cool.

Dude the singer from Elfonia was on the latest Ayreon. And as for Secret Sphere, the first 2 CD's are totally different from this 3rd one. And as for Heavenly I left it at my girlfriend's house with my Iced Earth CD....and now it can't be found Vegeta

Death Angel is not power metal, Marv You seem much crankier than on the old board Ben. Maybe even though they have been speed/thrash...this album is a bit different. Actually "Act III" is different from what I remember their older stuff to be...much better. Don't think it should be considered power metal, but since it's a bit off from straight speed/thrash...it could fit in this thread. For now anyway, until this board really gets going. BTW...both of those albums kick serious ass, IMO. Seth

Death Angel is not power metal, Marv Well EXCUSE ME!! Is anybody still making "power metal" these days? thought that died in the 80's when thrash took over, or is it just called something different now, seems to be a new term coined every few years

You seem much crankier than on the old board Ben. * I doubt that. I'm a very cheerful person. But if I see points I disagree with, I'm NOT gonna hold back myself. Don't think it should be considered power metal, but since it's a bit off from straight speed/thrash...it could fit in this thread. For now anyway, until this board really gets going. * ok. I agree with that. BTW...both of those albums kick serious ass, IMO. * Yes, this point I seriously agree with. Seth

They are both great. I just started getting into "Act III", not sure which I like better. They seem to have a very distinct sound and style...nothing repetetive. Hope they keep puttin' stuff out.

Seems like it's not overloading nearly as much. Servers must be working better. Sorry we got off topic a little. How about Iced Earth? You guys talked quite a bit about them on the old board. "The Dark Saga" is the only one I'm familiar with now. It's pretty good. What's everyone's opinion on their best stuff? Seth

I always thought The Dark Saga was to Iced Earth what Parallels was to Fates Warning ... good, but with the talent in this band, I was expecting better.
The 2 Iced Earth discs that show this band at their most lethal were the 2 before Dark Saga. Night of the Stormrider(1992) and Burnt Offerings(1995) almost sound like a completely different band on energy alone. The song structures to the latter album kind of places it in the "progressive metal" category, or at least it sounds more progressive than anything bands that usually claim that genre have done in recent memory.
That is for now
