Dude Ben, I am really digging that Alcest band now. It took me a little while but wow. I am definitely going to have to buy their album. Thanks for the recommendation! As for the new Winds album... meh. It's alright.

So along with the Fair to Midland album, I did a little mini-haul just now. Got that along with Borknagar's "Epic" and Tyr's "Eric the Red". Both are reviewed very well and sound like they're right up my folk/viking alley.. ;D

Ooh I like "Epic" a lot. Where did you read good reviews though? It seems wherever I've read stuff about it, people don't seem to like it much. I think mainly because all the songs sound fairly similar... but if you like the sound of one song as I do, then I suppose you'll like the whole cd haha. As for me, I have that Alcest album coming in the mail probably tomorrow and I just ordered "Two Hunters" from Wolves in the Throne Room last night. It's not supposed to come out until the 25th but The End is selling it now (not a pre-order) so hopefully it'll come soon. I cannot wait for that cd! Ben, you probably already have it? How is it? I've heard it's supposed to be way good.

Metal archives has varied reviews on "Epic", but a lot compare it to and some even say it's better than "Empiricism"...we'll see about that. But with Vintersorg, it's hard to go wrong IMO... Gonna read some more about WitTR, seems like I read some good ones already for that "Two Hunters"...that's the new one right? Wished I had remembered the new Epica was out already, saw it as a top seller on theend's site after I did my haul. Read some reviews and it sounds real good, appears they went a bit heavier than "Consign to Oblivion" and with more harsh vocals which I think Jansen does great. That's the one thing CtO was missing IMO, more growls mixed with the excellent music and Simone's great vocals. Will get that one soon enough.

Well "Epic" is a very solid album. I still like "Empiricism" much more than it but both are great IMO. And yeah, "Two Hunters" is the new WitTR. I'm real excited about getting that one. I listened to some short sound clips and they sounded mighty fine.

haven't heard the Epica, but have heard WitTR, and it's quite excellent, but not AS good In My Mind's Eye, as Diadem of 12 Stars.. Your mileage may vary

Your mileage may vary "Diadem of 12 Stars" will be extremely difficult to top. We'll see. Actually I'm kind of surprised "Two Hunters" hasn't come in yet (nor has the Alcest album!!!) so it should be here soon.

rumour is thick that the new Woods of Ypres album is finally ready Last news I saw was pressing starts on 10/15, I think? Shouldn't be long, can't wait! Man, I layed back with Windir's "Arntor" on the headphones last weekend...have to say it was OK the first 3 spins, but it really clicked with that one. Was probably the first time I really concentrated on it. That's some very cool shit, interesting styles mingled in with the black...sounds like pretty authentic/traditional stuff. And the last track "Ending", friggin' awesome! Makes me want to slam dance whilst chuggin' a gallon 'o beer... #viking# #cheers# Will pick away at the rest of those, damn shame such a talent had to freeze to death(RIP)...... Got a couple from the last haul, Borknagar's "Epic" has potential for sure, Mr. Hedlund has become my favorite vocalist. Fair to Midland does sound good Ben, nice little proggy touches, seems well written and catchy...only 1 spin so far. Dying to hear Tyr "Eric the Red", was bummed when it wasn't in the mail yesterday.... Been working on "Solens Rotter" more lately from Vintersorg, bit of a slow grower compared to the earlier albums...but it's becoming just as awesome IMO. Seth

Your mileage may vary I finally got "Two Hunters" by Wolves in the Throne Room today. I've had the chance to listen to it once so far. Definitely not as amazing as "Diadem of 12 Stars" as Ben said, but still a great album. The packaging is very cool too (nice digipack and all). I really like the song "Vastness and Sorrow" from it. Ben, what's "In My Mind's Eye?" I'm not familiar with that title. Is it a demo of WitTR?

Haha yeah I'm smart, if you hadn't figured that out... Sounds more like a prog. metal album title than black metal anyways. As for "Two Hunters," it's growing on me. Listened to it again today but with headphones. Good stuff. I just wish it was a bit longer and with a little more "meat" on it. Haven't got my Alcest cd in the mail. What's up with The End anyways? Usually they're WAY fast but it took much longer for me to get my WitTR and I still haven't received the Alcest cd which I ordered before-hand. I think maybe they changed their shipping method or something. Plus I got an email apologizing for not sending me the Winds cd and shirt and saying that they're out of shirts so they'll refund me, even though I got the cd and the shirt a while ago! While another cd and money would be nice, I replied back telling them what's up, but still... Seems like something's going on over there.

Yep, Windir is fantastic...will get everything from them soon.
Borknagar "Epic" is pretty good so far, with some outstanding songs. Still needs a bit more time before I can truly compare to "Empiricism".
Fair to Midland is sounding better all the time, still haven't got much time with it...but it has lots of potential. Starting to hear more proggy stuff, and I like some of the retro style too.
Tyr was a bit of a surprise, after all the reviews I read...I really had it in my head it would be a 'black' based style...maybe like Borknagar or Windir. But it's actually more like traditional and power metal, and not one comparison to Savatage which I think is very obvious...especially the "Wake of Magellan" style. Little bit theatric, and does have the viking/pirate type chorus thing. 1st spin didn't blow me away, but I did notice how great the guitar work is...again maybe a comparison to Chris Oliva. 2nd spin(just half actually) sounded good, going back to it soon. Not terribly catchy, but it might be a slow grower and come along nice. Everything is done well, from the vocals, guitars and production...guess we'll see.
;D

Ordered "Omnio" and "Strange in Stereo" by In the Woods... yesterday. I got 'em from Tower.com but they're not supposed to ship for a couple weeks or so. The End screwed up my Alcest order. Still haven't got that yet. And they haven't replied back to my emails asking about it... grr...
