#nunchuck# #box2# #nunchuck# #box2# #nunchuck# #box2# So far in the month of August I've been going crazy catching up on some albums that I just failed to pick up in the past and a couple new ones too, and a Killer Music DVD. 8-4-06 Theocracy - Theocracy.... Very cool, Lots of great tunes the that stand out for me. "The Serpents Kiss" killer song Rebellion - Shakespeare's MacBeth - A Tragedy in Steel... This album rocks! I love Iambic Pentameter #duel# Vanden Plas - AcCult.... I have lots of Vanden Plas but not this 10 year old one. It's still a nice album, you could tell they were going to be great even then. Wicked Sensation - Reflected... Just OK. Standard metal. Not too adventurous, and I need adventure. 8-13-06 Unearth - III In The Eyes Of Fire... The most talented Metalcore like band out there. Probably because that's not all they do. These guys rip, and they play killer shred riffs also get into some really nice melodic passages. It's like Power Metal meets Hardcore. They even have some great midtempo tasty bits and some Piano.... Mercenary - The Hours That Remian... These guys Slay ME!! I can't wait to see them again at Progpower! And the album is not quite 11 Dreams but it's close and thats better than almost everything. Who knows I only have one listen in, so in reality the verdict is still out. 8-16-06 Division - Trinity.... Another Metalages gem. Gude Shite Power Of Omens - Rooms of Anguish... This stuff is so over the top it's almost hard to listen too. Especially the drums. But they are so damn talented that you can't put it down. Arellano just never stops wanking for a second. Even so, too bad they broke up because it is very unique stuff that in the end is pretty F*#king badass and it has a place in my music library. Then again if they didn't break up my homies in Zero Hour Jasun and Troy wouldn't have their killer singer right now. #notworthy# Archetype - Dawning... haven't listened to this one much yet, but what I have heard sounds cool. Looking forward to doing some more listening on this one. 8-17-06 Cellador - How does one describe these guys. Power Metal meets Thrash? Very Speedy but without the normal cheese (there is some cheese just not the triple cheese deluxe). Very cool... I'm looking forward to catching one of their shows. Green Carnation - The Quiet Offspring.... These guys Rule I've only listened to half of this thing and it's HUGE! Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness... One Song, 60 minutes and I love it!! These guys are seriously under appreciated. Killer Band And the DVD is "A Moment In Time" by Anathema... FANTASTIC!! They play a great mix of old and new and there are a few extras that are cool. Get this at all costs...

Been reading quite a bit about Cellador lately, some good reviews floating around. May look into them. "The Acoustic Verses" is really good from Green Carnation, very catchy stuff. Would like to pick up some more from them. The long song sounded good on that live DVD I rented. Probably should look into the Anathema DVD too. Got "The Mantle" from Agalloch a bit ago, man that is a moody sucker. Taking awhile to click, but it's getting there...I absolutely love the different instruments they use. I think it's the ebow.. that has that real low sting sound, works so good for that cold desolate mood. Those guys are great either way, "Desolation Song" is cool as hell and the 2 longer songs are standing out a lot right now. Seth

"The Serpents Kiss" killer song Hmm, maybe I'll have to check these guys out. I was on the Shadow Gallery forum and there was a guy telling me how awesome they are. I listened to a couple of clips and was impressed, but not enough to move their album to the top of my "to buy" list. But maybe that'll change... I also ordered "Room V" by Shadow Gallery (the 2 disc set) yesterday, so I'll tell you guys what I think of it once it comes. -Kerrick

Well, "Room V" came in the other day. I've only listened to it twice so far, but from what I've heard, I really like it a lot, probably more than "Tyranny." It's quite a bit softer than "Tyranny" but much more emotional. The bonus disk is cool too. It has a 24 minute long Pink Floyd medly (and some guy named Mark Zonder is a guest drummer on it ) which is my favorite. Good stuff. -Kerrick

A 24 minute long Floyd medley with Zonder on the drums!!!... #drooling# That sounds very cool indeed. Well, "The Mantle" hit on all cylinders this past week when it was overcast, rainy and all around crappy out here...had it on the headphones at lunch(sitting outside and luckily it wasn't actually raining at the time) 3 days in row. Perfect conditions to let that somber mood sink in, excellent stuff just like the first one. So I went ahead and ordered the new one yesterday... #rockin# #hardrock# Almost pulled the trigger on Captain Beyond's self-titled, found a decent price on a new one from Amazon. There were several available so I'll wait on that for awhile. I have a lot of thoughts on the Coenen album, been working so much haven't had time to get on-line much. I'll get them together soon though.

I too have the new Unearth cd and they do rip. I also enjoyed them at Ozzfest and they are unreal live. They are more hard thrash metal live than they are core.
I like the band.

Yeah, I saw Unearth at the Sounds of the Underground a couple of years ago and I thought they were way good. Not quite my style, but for what they are... -Kerrick

Dang, well now that The End is in NY, it's a bit further away from us Western US folks... Argh. Should come in soon though. Just got "A Matter of Life and Death" by Iron Maiden yesterday. Wow, what a great album. I'd describe it as a mix between the song structure and darkness of "The X Factor," the maturity in writing of "Dance of Death," and maybe a little of "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" thrown in there for good measure. I got my copy at Best Buy for $10 with the bonus dvd and a cool patch of Eddie's face with the two guns crossed below. What a steal! Haha, I'd definitely suggest it to any Maiden fan or heavy metal fan in general. Next on my list are "Pulse" by Spi-Ritual (check those guys out! Crazy! www.spi-ritual.com/spi-index.phtml), "Then Comes Affliction to Awaken the Dreamer" by Twisted into Form, and "Carved in Stone" by Shadow Gallery. -Kerrick

Still not here today, I'm liking the other 2 so damn much it's just intensifying the anticipation. "The Mantle" has really grown even more this week, while it's better for certain moods...I'm liking it all the time now. They use the contrabass and ebow so well, that deep sorrowful sound of the ebow is awesome...how they integrate it with the acoustic guitar and so on is brilliant. Plus a very nice use of the accordian on the last song, incredibly creative... ;D On to Maiden, I've read too many reviews yet again...but fortunately most are very positive. I just didn't jump on it right away, but intend to next payday. I'll let that anticipation build for awhile too...

I've been afraid to buy the new Maiden. For some reason they just seem to disapoint me these days. I can't put my finger on it but they jusr aren't what they used to be.
