....liking the new one, ha? I love it, actually falls in my 3rd spot now behind only "Morningrise" and "Blackwater Park". I like it slightly better than BWP. Are you getting used to the growls or just tolerating them? Oh yeah, the growls grow on me. If they seem to fit the music or concept and are low enough as to not be irritating...they can really sound good IMO. Agreed.

That's cool that you're open minded about that, I was pretty close minded about death metal...and still don't much care for the first generation stuff. But some smart guys decided to turn it into a very good genre. Do yourself a favor and get that "Lamentations" DVD, it'll give you another whole view of the band. At the same time, I'm hoping someone(my wife, stepson, aunt, anyone will do) gets me the new FW DVD... I do believe it will happen... #praying# Seth

I didn't vote, because I really cannot get into them. I have listened to several of their albums, and went to their last show(to see Into Eternity, and Nevermore), and really did not care for them.

I cannot believe I'm the only one to vote for Still Life. What a gem.

For the life of me I just can't get into SL as much as the others. It does have some great songs and parts of songs, but overall it's lacking something. I don't think style-wise it's all that different from BWP, but BWP's songs are just better IMO...more unique to themselves and catchier. I think some of the riffs on SL don't stick with me the same.
Oh well, I see they're doing another US tour starting in Feb., only a few dates up so far. Openers right now are Dark Tranquility(just listened to "Character" today, kicks ass... #rockin# ) and The Devin Townsend Band. Should be a great show as long as they can get in the country this time.

The songs on BWP are better written, but Still Life has a coherent story, which My Arms Your Hearse didn't. Ghost Reveries almost brings them back to concept album land, except for one song, probably Hours of Wealth, which doesn't add in, according to Mikael

That's true, I usually like story albums more than regular ones...and SL is a good story, just musically falls short of their other stuff. MAYH is a pretty good story too, once you read MA's comments on it...it helps a little to at least get what he was shooting for.
In the meantime, I listened to BWP today, damn that is a great album. If "Dirge for November" wasn't on there or was a better song...I say it would be flawless. The last 5 minutes of the title track blows me away everytime... #hardrock#

OK, let's try it again...March 15th in Tempe! Got my tickets over the weekend. Sucks though that Townsend's not on the bill, Devildriver instead.

No news of tonight's show canceling... ;D I've studied up enough on the openers, really like DT even though I only have the newest 2 albums...most of the set is from them anyway. Luckily a guy at my work has Devildriver's new one, it's not bad really although not awesome. The drummer is excellent though, so that's a big plus and the reviews of the live show are decent.
Did anyone in CA see that 'Chronology' show they did last night? Was in LA, plus they were in SD the other night...did you catch that Bret?
The kid's about to crap himself, we're gonna head over early and tailgate in the parking lot...might get lucky before or after to meet the band(s).

The concert was great and the kid and I had a blast. Were only able to meet Mikael, and the 2 Martins from DT(not Opeth, weird how they have the same names... ) It was right before the doors opened and they had to get in, but were real cool guys and chatted as long as they could. Also took a couple pics with us(below)...who the hell is the dorky lookin' dude in front on the second pic? Sorry about the horrible quality of the pics, just a throw away deal. DT was excellent, very tight band live and Mikael's voice was right on the money. The older songs I didn't know sounded cool also, need to pick up some more by them. Devildriver was decent, got the crowd going real good...but the highlight for me(as with the album) was the drummer, sounded good and we had a good view so I watched him most of the time. Dude is fast as hell and fun to watch. Opeth was excellent, not overly loud so it sounded real good. Mikael was comical in between songs, the set list was good..."Under the Weeping Moon" from "Orchid" was a great highlight. We were a little bummed that we couldn't meet them after the show, but overall it was a fun night. Here's the pics...
