I propose that all people who wish to run for public office have to pass a mental and psychological exam. Maybe some of you don't think this is particularly crazy, but I can't believe these people are actually public servants. Here's the article: www.nypost.com/entertainment/43961.htmI was relieved to hear that a poll taken finds that most people don't agree with this type of legislation, but doesn't take away from the fact that this guy shouldn't be writing anything. But one person interviewed I heard said that jailtime may be too much, but they should be sentenced to big fines, probation and community service... Honestly, what about spending more time and money on fighting real crime, the kind that kills our kids, rapes our women...etc... Enough with cracking down harder on someone who farts on the air... what an asshat. I don't think my tax dollars should be spent protecting society from crass and lewdness.

That is Fucking ridiculous. I think the new fines will easily keep the airwaves cleaned up, and keep it from spiraling in to smut TV and Porno Radio. It's not like this thing is a huge problem. This guy doesn't have enough real work to do. Throw him out on his ass!

You guys see that politician on TV awhile back who wrote legislation to ban low-rider jeans and implement fines for ass-crack showing...LMAO! Looked as if it might go through too until plumbers of all people bitched and said they can't be responsible if their crack shows... Absolutely serious, it was on Dateline or one of those. I think the plumbers coming out woke everyone up to how silly it was. I'm for a certain amount of decency regulated by the gov't, but still think parents should do the majority of the regulation. The cable companies are getting blasted now to upgrade their filtering and blocking abilities or face the consequences. As long as they don't go after HBO, and satellite TV/radio...you really know what you're buying when you get those, no reason to hassle them. Seth

haha, I saw that low-rider thing on "A Current Affair" (yes, one of my fav after school tv-shows has returned).
Completely ridiculous... and you know the guy who proposed it probably sits on the internet whackin his dong to porn.
Seth, if you follow Stern's site, he's always got some new article on the fight of indecency on his front page. I read em every now and then and it's downright stupid to the point of being funny.
If they set their sights on drugs, guns, and violent crimes instead of fart noises and talk of sex, we might actually accomplish something in this country (just my 2 cents).

I used to go to the Stern site often, but have been forgetting lately. There were a lot of articles if I remember, some good reading even though I hardly believe everything I read. Some of it is comical though and likely true. I still maintain that they're going too far with these fines, but at the same time...what the hell can we do? I probably won't listen to Stern once he goes to satellite, maybe someday...but I'm not ready to pay for it yet. The ball gets rolling with this bill though and how far it goes will be the real test of how far religion/morality will determine our entertainment. As long as they don't outlaw miniskirts...GOOD LORD...could you imagine... LMAO!! Seth

haha! If they outlaw mini skirts, tight low cut t-shirts I'm gouging out my eyeballs! And if they outlaw tight jeans, then I better have my bank account ready cause I'll be fined

One more pretty good article, on this one I was more interested in the Florida bill proposing that students can sue their professors if they disagree with them... Guess I should've posted this in the "Pussification of America" thread. It discusses the indecency thing also, and I can make the tie in seeing how a law like that would be far more indecent than anything an entertainer could say: www.thesimon.com/magazine/articles/canon_fodder/0810_on_decency_common_sense.htmlSeth

Bernie Sanders is a whackjob. (that's PERIOD.)
Trust me on this...VT's track record of electing politicians is pretty piss poor.
Bernie Sanders Jim Jeffords Patrick Lehey Howard Dean

He very well may be...I'm not a fan of politicians ever really. But listening to him talk the other day and reading through his proposal...he makes more sense on this issue than any other FCC official or politician I've heard yet. They don't have a clear stand because they know being pushed by the religious right is pushing them into a constitutional battle that they would likely lose if it went to a court situation. So they flip-flop and backtrack on what they say, have heard many a quote that makes no sense constitutionally or in general based on their previous quotes.
So even a complete idiot can make a logical proposal in gov't, might be the only good thing he does...and that may be one more good thing than many of his peers.
