By that I mean everyone getting offended so easily which I mentioned in another thread to be a bigger problem than indecency. Here's one article, but hardly encompasses the full extent to which political correctness is ruining this country... www.shns.com/shns/g_index2.cfm?action=detail&pk=FIRSTAMENDMENT-01-24-05When did this change actually occur? Obviously a little at a time, but it's gettin' to be re-God-damn-diculous... Should the gov't be allowed to jail someone, or like in the other thread...fire someone because they say something that may slightly offend someone else. Why can't the burden be put on people to not be offended because who the fuck cares what other people think or say? Within reason of course, there are situations that call for action...but where should the line be drawn? Seth

To be honest, I think both wings bea responsibility for that. On the left, you've got weenies that complain that you're 'not being sensitive to the Afro-Caribbean American plight' or some silly shit like that while they demand equality in all ways, while a lot of right-wingers get all riled up every time you challenge the idea that God exists, and even if he does, his name is not Ronald Reagan. And let's not get started on 'broadcast decency.' All these weenies simply need to shut the fuck up. I don't see what's so goddamn difficult about disregarding (without necesarilly disrespecting) ideas you don't agree with. Not everybody is like you. Deal with it. (While I'm at it, to these weenies I would say 1) My anscestors were enslaved and annihilated by European whites. To hold it against Ben, Colleen or even Rush Limbaugh would be fucking stupid. 2) If you can prove creationism beyond any reasonable doubt, then you can put in science books.)Honestly, I think by and large that those who are easily offended by outside thought are unsure about what they believe in. If anything, broadcast decency should mean "not retarded." It would eliminate reruns of Friends, Seinfeld, reality shows, and Everbody Loves Raymond, and I would once again be free to channel-surf without the fear of getting stupider while doing it.

The biggest problem I have is within the citizens themselves. Politically is a whole different animal and both sides do have their extreme idiocies that are helping to promote it.
It's just getting out of hand that people can't ignore things that other people say if they don't agree with it or if it happens to offend their thin little skin. I mean we can insult each other here to a degree when we disagree about something and rarely anyone gets real pissed about it. I can't stand 98% of the people I work with(thankfully I work on my own, but still have to see them), so I just let it all go right over my head, could care less what they think or say about me to the other ass-holes. It's all so insignificant in the grand scheme of things...let's spend our time bettering ourselves, enjoying our families and our lives while we have them rather than sending thousands of complaint letters and starting law suits everytime someone comments on our race, color, religion..etc...
It would be nice also if the gov't on both sides would quit trying to tell us what we can and can't say and where exactly our morals need to be.

The only thing that offends me is being told what to think and feel by the gov't or anyone for that matter. And I guess I'm offended by those who bitch and moan all the time that someone has offended them...kind of an oxymoron I suppose. Honestly, people can call me an ass-hole, a honky, a stupid Communist cuz I'm Russian...they can call me fugly or a piece of meat if they want...could give 2 shits. I think if more people thought this way there would be less offenses being made. What would be the point if nobody cares? I also mentioned that both sides politically are responsible for promoting this crap. Seth

The only time I get offended is when it's assumed I'm not knowledable about things because I'm female.

There you go again, Colleen, shattering yet another popular myth.
Of course, in my experience, it's the men who are idiots.

Always been one for womens rights and have complete respect for them as far as intelligence and capability. Guys do show their ignorance when they think and speak otherwise. Seth

I mean when you are offended, it never happens accidentally, you've chosen to be offended 100% of the time.
I'm not saying there's not legitimate reasons to be offended, but whether its legitimate or not, you've chosen to be that way.
Take for example my criticism of the board having too many forums, Colleen had a choice, to take it worth a grain of salt (whether she agreed or disagreed, or would do anything about it either way) or she could become offended and thing "how dare he question how I put together MY board", and take it as a personal attack against her (which it wasn't) and even if it was she still has that choice.

Hey guys/gals it's been a while. I hope that all is well with you all.
Um... the only way I, as a "right wing weenie" would get offended is if someone attacked somebody other than myself for something I said or did. And in this case "offended" might be the wrong word.
As a Christian, in my business, which is basicly selling GOTH, I meet a lot of people that have polar opposite views from those of mine. If I got offended everytime someone expressed different POV's other than mine I'd be upset 24-7.
I think people cast their personal perspective onto, or into someone else's opinion. That's where the offense to an issue begins. -Peace. Rick

I mean when you are offended, it never happens accidentally, you've chosen to be offended 100% of the time. OK, I see what you're saying and that makes sense. I do feel though that people can train themselves to not take offense at every little thing and certainly can make themselves quit sending complaint letters and starting campaigns for such trivial things that really don't affect their lives directly. These 10 Commandments, God in the Pledge, God on money are just a few examples that come to mind...how do those things affect these people who wish to do away with them directly. If the gov't decided to put "In Satan we trust" on money...it really wouldn't offend me. I wouldn't agree with it, but how's it gonna hurt me directly? We need as a whole society to allow more of these trivial things to wash over us. So while we make the choice to be offended, we also can easily make a choice to not care. Seth
