Alright. After our discussion in "Recent Haul" I thought I should just start an appreciation thread for hiking through the forest, specifically the redwood forest. So who else is with me? My favorite place to be in the entire world is in the redwoods on a grey, foggy/rainy day. My friends and I love to find the steepest hills we can in there and jump/slide down them, sort of like snow boarding but without the snow or the board . If anyone is ever in the area (Santa Cruz, CA) during the next month or so when I'll be there for Christmas break, let me know and I'd be glad to go hiking with you! Just so long as you don't mind getting cold and wet/muddy and are a decent hiker. I'm not talking about any pussy trail hikes, I'm talking about forging your own trails, jumping and sliding down the steepest slopes possible, and probably getting hurt (someone always does... but that's part of the fun!). Oh man, I can't wait to get home and go crashing through the forest! -Kerrick

I used to be a big hiker.
Never seen a California Redwood, but I would like to.
I have, however, seen many a bald eagle, gone sea-kayaking (playing with whales and dolphins along the San Juan Islands of Washington State and British Columbia, Canada) and canoeing, and reached 10 K Ft alpine.

Ahh, I went on a great hike with a few pals a couple of days ago. Unfortunately it wasn't raining but that's alright. It was still a good one. I'd post some pictures I took, but call me stupid- I don't know how to post 'em. I see the little "insert picture" thingy here, but I don't know how to put the picture in there... Help please? Thanks. -Kerrick

first: you need to upload the pic to a website page. I use www.imageshack.usThen, you cut/paste the picture url into the board reply box. You'll know quickly if you do it wrong, so keep the imageshack window open as a seperate browser window when you do it

Thanks Ben. Once I get some time I'll do that. Been pretty busy, but doing fun stuff like paintballing and dirtbiking, etc. Good stuff. I'll get those up as soon as I can. -Kerrick

Man, beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing. Kinda makes me want to go outside, until I look at the thermostat and 30 degrees F sends me packing back to the couch.

nice pics Kerrick!!! They DO work with the music we were discussing! Thanks everyone! I'm no pro photographer for sure, but you get the idea. Here's a couple that I took from my deck a little while ago that fit with the music a little more:

Cool. We (the g/f, our daughter, yours truly) often do some hikes down here, in the San Diego area, at Mission Trails. I"m sure northern California has some awesome scenery dude!

Some great pics for sure Kerrick, thanks for sharing those. You need to have some Agalloch playing when viewing the ones with the fog, very cool. Reminds me of my younger days in NY, went up to Ithaca a lot for work and leisure. Would kick around Cornell University a bit, always checked out Cayuga Lake of course...but I liked camping at Buttermilk Falls the most. It was/is such a cool place, and so wide open. Hiking around the trails and up into the falls was awesome. But even more impressive was Taughannock Falls, was a bit of a ride out of town...but more than worth it. The ride itself was great since the rim roads went right along side Cayuga Lake, some amazing views from quite high above the lake. Then the falls were amazing, one of the tallest in the country I believe...and some very cool trails, sometimes a bit scary even... #bitingnails# Hey bro, thanks for bringing back those memories for me...only wish I had all the pics I took back then. May have to see if the folks can dig around and see if they still exist back there. Daryl... #ohgoon# I'm with ya there, love the outdoors and a nice temp to go with it. Otherwise I'm not to fond of going out in the cold. Even been cold in Phoenix this winter, not like everywhere else...but well below freezing many a night.
