I just went Saturday.
Unexpect was up first, we missed most of their set trying to park and find the venue, we could hear it quite a ways away and heard a couple songs they sounded interesting to me, I wish I could have seen it. They just had part of a public park block off on an island in the St. Lawrence River.
Lauren Harris was next, they had 2 stages setup next too each other so she started in just a couple minutes (like 1-2) after Unexpect finished. Not bad stuff, straight up rock/metal. Her voice is decent, the band was good (I'm guessing Maiden roadies/techs since they seemed to be way the hell older than her). Not sure I'd spend money on this, but was completely listenable. Her voice is good, and she's easy on the eyes.
There unfortunately was sound problems on the 2nd stage so we had to wait about 30 minutes for Overkill to start, The opened with "Coma" then "Rotten to the Core", "Hello from the Gutter", "Old School", some song I didn't recognize, "Elimination", and "We don't care what you say (Fuck You)" (lovely to think families enjoy the public park could hear that!) They did the intro and verse of Warpigs in the middle of it too. At least the sound was good for all that wait. Blitz kept leaving the stage, and running back on missing the first two words of the verse after, which was kind of funny after like the 15th time.
3 Inches of Blood was next and started immediately after Overkill, they were awesome, I think the growling singer was MIA, although one of the guitars was doing it some. The main singer was dead on with his Halford-esque screams and sounded awesome. "Destroy the Orcs" and "Deadly Sinner" were the only two songs I remember although they played several, about 45 minutes worth (which was the case for most bands).
Symphony X was next, still technical problems on this stage delayed their set by 10 minutes maybe. So they played around 40 I think. Mostly songs off their newest album (which I didn't have so was clueless) sound was good and the playing tight, new songs seemed alright, would have liked a couple older ones though. "Inferno" and "Of Sins and Shadows" were the only 2 older ones they played.
Hatebreed started immediately after S-X, so I took the opporunity to not care, as is the traditional thing I do when Hatebreed is playing (at least 2nd if not 3rd time I've done so), it sounded ok, I guess. I think I heard Raining blood at one point as well as the dedicate a song to Dimebag.
Hammerfall was next they sounded pretty good, Jociam was complaining they got told they could only play 30 minutes instead of 45, I enjoyed their set for what it was, I don't own any albums though. I think "Let the Hammer Fall" was the only title I remember.
Mastodon was next, but I found myself kinda bored by them, nothing about the music grabbed me so I made my retreat to the shade they had an interesting thing in a song or two, but by large was forgetable to me.
Type O Negative then took the 2nd stage Peter asked the audience if we were ready to be disappointed, got into an argument with the guitarist (planned joke I'm sure), swore the soundmen, said he was drinking his urine, apologized for playing the daylight so we could see how ugly he was. "Kill all the White People", "Halloween in Heaven", "Christian Woman", "Black No. 1" and 2 more songs I think was the setlist. Pretty good show overall.
We had to wait a while for Dethklok to get setup on the 2nd stage (Maiden was still setting up on the main stage). It started with a cartoon from Metalocalypse, and then the band came out played serveral songs with the cartoons in the background, some of the toons were funny, some were just wierd. The band itself was tight and sounded good the vocal parts of the songs were pretty bland, but some of the more melodic parts were very good, Gene Holgan tore up the kit, so I was glad to see him play though it was not crazy like Death was. The actually had the videos sync'd up awesomely during the show. It was interesting and different overall.
And finally Iron Maiden took the main stage about 15 min. later, setlist has been posted around so I won't repeat it. The sound was incredible though, and the stage show great "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" was awesome and the subtlety of all the sound sin teh slow section came through great, and the fog and swaying lights against the creeks of the wood was awesome. Definitely the highlight of the show, seeing Moonchild was great too. May have been my favorite Maiden show thus far.
