Well it was awesome for the show to go ahead, even if ticket sales were well down on expectations (just over 150 sold - sadly not enough to cover expenses).
It was magic just watching the guys sound-check, Jim and Frank played snippets from all sorts of classics, so I was wondering if we'd get a special cover as well, but it was not to be. From the body language during the sound-check, they all seemed a bit down and fed up (granted that they've been doing a lot of travelling), but once they got on stage they were right into it and certainly delivered the best set I can remember (the other 2 occasions were a few years ago ). I particularly enjoyed Frank's playing and was slightly surprised to hear that some of the passages I thought were played on keys, were in fact played on guitar. doh!
Once the crowd started joining in and singing along you could see a smile start to break out on Ray's face and the hard-core who stayed right to the very end gave the band a great response. I had no real complaints about the setlist (ok, so they didn't play We only say goodbye). Personal faves, which I thought absolutely killed live were One and Still Remains from the awesome Disconnected disk.
I spoke to Jim briefly after the show and he seemed pleased enough and admitted that they needed to play over here a bit more to build the fan-base back up again [which I interpreted as a very positive sign ]
Setlist:
Disconnected Part 1
One
A Pleasant Shade of Grey III
A Pleasant Shade of Grey IV
Another Perfect Day
Life In Still Water
Island In The Stream
A Pleasant Shade of Grey VII
The Eleventh Hour
Point of View
Still Remains
Stranger (With A Familiar Face)
A Pleasant Shade of Grey XI
------------------
Silent Cries
Eye To Eye
Nothing Left To Say
Monument
Thanks for coming guys and don't forget us next time you visit Europe.
