The band is tired of playing those old songs live
Not exactly. If anything, the band hasn't played much of this stuff for years. I'll take a sampling of some old tunes, and see how many years it's been since they've played some of them live. I'll do the standard ones fans have been yelling out, and some real obscure ones that everybody has forgotten about.
Ready?
Valley of the Dolls (18 years) The Sorceress (18 years) Traveler In Time (18 Years) Epitaph (16 years) Exodus (15 years) Fata Morgana (15 years) The Apparition (16 years) Damnation (13 years) Anarchy Divine (15 years) Silent Cries (13 years) Part of the Machine (13 years) Static Acts (13 years) Guardian (10 years)
Basically, the Parallels tour of 1992 was the last time anyting truly adventurous was played. If anything, the band should be "sick and tired" of playing the new stuff, since that's really the only material that's been played live for the past 10-13 years. Considering the fact that we've had the first live album from Fates, some VHS and DVD performances since the old tunes were dropped, we've been left with buying (which our own choice, I admit) rare footage from this band with the same songs over and over again, which is what made this possible taping in Greece that much more important.
Needless to say, I am shocked when people still use the "band is tired of playing all the old stuff in concert" argument, since it barely holds water.
