Specifically at the show in Greece which may be captured on video (not yet confirmed) for an upcoming DVD? I will be asking Jim what he thinks about this idea (which was a great suggestion, btw). No promises, of course, but I'll keep you posted both in terms of tallying the song info and what Mr. Matheos and the guys think about doing a little "Tribute to the Fans" per se. Let the polling begin!

Thats a so excellent idea, ShadesOfGray. I really HOPE that Jim would take this seriously. Anyway my dream setlist: Left Here Simple Human Heal Me ------ Anarchy Divine Part Of The Machine Don't Follow Me Pale Fire Point Of View The Eleventh Hour Outside Looking In Through Different Eyes Life In Stil Waters THE IVORY GATE OF DREAMS Valley Of The Dolls (yea, i wish ) Nothing Left To Say The Apparition (no i am not joking i am SERIOUS, but Jim probably thinks this song is a joke now) Monument and then again THE IVORY GATE OF DREAMS (again haha) So, since the Fates Warning concerts in Greece/1999 had (almost) the whole APSOG album, i wish that the one for February will have OLD songs in the playlist. C Mon every Greek fan wants to hear em, especially THE IVORY GATE OF DREAMS OK PLEASE JIM PLAY THE IVORY GATE OF DREAMS PLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE

Thanks I! But the idea, alas, was from a couple of fans, and not my own brain. Hope this will go over well with the band... I think it would seriously kick ass if they did something like this... could include some commentary in the DVD as to how it came about maybe Oh... and for some strange reason, the title didn't like UBB or HMTL codes, so I fixed the re: titles in both your posts.

Everyone's given great suggestions, so I'll just add APSOG parts VIII and XI(maybe a bit of a stretch). And I have to big-time second the suggestions for "Still Remains" and "River Wide, Ocean Deep"!...gotta hear and see those live... ;D Seth edit, didn't notice you suggested Part XI Brett...

I was thinking before that FW might rehearsing the songs they selected to play in Greece, right now. I mean.. its almost a month for the concerts, i dont think that they will decide NOW , or in a few days about the playlist...

Colleen ... you rule, times two!
Basically, what I would not like to see is Still Life on DVD. Yes, I know they are probably going to include "The Eleventh Hour" and "Monument" and maybe even "Point of View" because I know Jimmy likes that song. But I have heard fans yell out some old stuff when I went to see them 13 times, and this stuff never gets played. So I'm going to narrow it down to about 6 or 7:
Silent Cries Epitaph Fata Morgana (or Guardian) Part of the Machine (my favorite Fates tune) Damnation The Strand Island in the Stream
A handful of these songs to mix it up a bit would help. I know Jimmy mentioned that he was going to include "Island in the Stream" on the Disconnected tour with Nevermore, which was cancelled. Then up came the Savatage thing, and no more mention of "Island in the Stream".
Another thing. It's nice to have the respective live songs at least represent the albums they are on. For instance, "Through Different Eyes" does not represent Perfect Symmetry as a whole very well ... at ALL. "At Fates Hands", I believe, did. I'm glad it was included on their only live album. The songs I picked may not have been the most popular with the group's somewhat expanded fan base since 1989, but I feel they, at the very least, represent the respective albums they are culled from.
that is all. Thanks again, Colleen. And let me know Jimmy's and/or Ray's response. Even if the guys pick out a dozen or so tunes for us to vote on, that would be a somewhat respectable compromise.

I mean.. its almost a month for the concerts, i dont think that they will decide NOW , or in a few days about the playlist... Totally understand your point... but I still feel it's worth it to try. I don't know if anyone's even attempted to do something like this with the band. I don't even know if the band actually understands how devoted their fans are, you know? I guess what I'm trying to say is, if they decide to add anything to the setlist for that show due to the fans requesting it... that will be HUGE for me. Don't know about you, but I'll feel as if something magical happened there, and the DVD will be even more special to me for that reason. This may well be the first time in Fates Warning's history that their is a direct line of communication between the band and their fans. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see how the relationship between the band and the fans may grow due to this. And I assure you, this is not something I take lightly. I truly feel blessed and honored to be a part of this machine (pun intended) and will do my best for the band and the fans.

what someone above said... no Still Life tunes.
As much as I love the good ole favorites, I want some different tunes. Don't really care which, as long as we get some! Between the 3 dvd's, there are a bunch of repeat songs, we don't need a 4th. Throw some old tunes in there! Throw some tunes that have not been played live in a while! (or haven't been played live at all).

Okay... heard back from Jim today regarding this. In his own words: "First, the Athens show taping/filming has not been confirmed. We are working on it but as of right now I don't know if it's happening. Second, the setlist for this tour has been agreed on for weeks. Having said that, I would be interested in what fans say but I can't make any promises."So keep them coming! I'll tally up the information midweek next week and will forward it to Jim. Hopefully we'll be hearing confirmation on the taping very soon, and who knows? Maybe they'll be able to add a few songs to the list for the fans

I don't know if anyone's even attempted to do something like this with the band
Many moons ago, on the old board at fateswarning.com, I was usually the one stirring the pot on the setlist debate. Unfortunately, I would do this AFTER the tour was complete, and my money spent, and needed an outlet to bitch about the current State of the Fates Warning Address.
It was at that point that I believe either RBH or some other curious party took a fairly extensive poll of what the fans on the board wanted to hear in the live setting. The exact details of it elude me, but here was the general conclusion:
- songs from Parallels garner the most votes - "Nothing Left to Say" should be added to the list, permanently if need be - A more obscure song from Inside Out would be nice - one song from Awaken the Guardian should be played - some more attention should be paid to No Exit, even if it means breaking up "The Ivory Gate of Dreams" to only play select parts
The response was well over 30 people, I believe, and that's pretty big considering it was over 30 different people adding their own opinions to this topic. This poll was taken, I believe, in 2001 after the Disconnected tour, and the topic has not been brought up until recently.
I would hope the band would put some thought into the setlist, at the very least, especially considering the possible taping. Since Jim seems doubtful that this may happen (the taping, that is) then perhaps it wouldn't seem so dire. But since the prime reason to tape something live would be for the fans (as Still Life is dedicated to the fans in the liner notes, for making the recording possible) it would be at least be a little comforting to know they are garnering input from the people who will eventually be buying it. And, I stand by this even if 0% of the songs I want played get picked. Jimmy is convinced that there are no fans left who want to hear anything old and/or obscure. I would like to know the truth to this as well.
as you were
