In theory, a band with John Arch, Victor Arduini, Frank Aresti, Joey Dibiase, and either Steve Zimmerman or Mark Zonder has enough personnel to be FW.
But, would and could that be Fates Warning???

You know... I really don't think so. He's been, in my opinion, the biggest single contributor to the band over the year's. His vision has always been evident in the writing style... we've just seen that vision mature along with Jim over the years...

Well a band like that would sound like Fates Warning, but not have the same feel. He's the main song writer, it would affect them

I keep forgetting just how much songwrititng Victor contributed on the first 2 albums. Frank is my favorite guitarist of all time, but I wonder what would have happened to their progression had Vic stayed in for the long haul.
Vic's credits, in order:
"Night on Brocken" "Misfit" "Soldier Boy" "Traveler In Time" "Orphan Gypsy" "Without A Trace" "Pirates of the Underground"
The only other album that featured more writing from other band members was No Exit.
So the "what if ..." card rears its head again.
and again and again

Don't you mean Steve Zimmerman? Or is this another arcane/exclusive BenMech report from the metal-alias underground?

Well, it could still be FW, but would it 'connect' with the fans? History has proven us that it wouldn't work. As good as journey's new singer is, nothing will top Steve Perry.
We've seen it over the past few decades... bands change a vital member, and they just tank. It's often better to just split and do your own thing. And even then, it sometimes doesn't work out. So with that, I say we clone Mr. Matheos so that FW never dies.

JM is the MAN, no f-ing way, no JM, no FW Got to agree. Some members of bands can be replaced. But JM has done the majority of the writing for some time, so it would be a different band all together without him. He wrote the entire APSOG album, and I would love to see another concept from them. JM would need to be around for another masterpiece like that...IMO. Seth

The reason why nothing happened with Journey is cuz that guy wasn't Steve Perry. It wasn't for the fact that he was worse than Steve Perry, cuz of you ask me he was way better. It wasn't for the fact that he didn't sound like Steve Perry, because they sound like the same person.
The fact is the fans are fickle pieces of shits when it comes to frontmen a lot of times. Except for in Helloween's case lol.
But I will admit, right now with what FW is doing, I don't think John Arch would fit well.

No, in all fairness, I don't think it would. In fact, I wonder if X wasn't their last album.

I'm not as much of a long-time fan as some of you, but from a fairly new fan's perspective, there is no way FW could exist without Jim Matheos.
JM is the idea center and primary songwriter. The ONLY way it could work now is if Frank Aresti was back in the band full time and became just as primary of a songwriter along with Ray Alder.
But even then...I'm not sure.
Queensryche was able to move on after DeGarmo, but the jury is still out on whether or not they can create an album equal to those created WITH him.
I think the same would happen with FW. But even to consider it, you'd need Aresti back in full time and being the primary songwriter (along with Ray).
