I´ve always kind of disliked Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, they´ve done one or two albums that rocked but that´s it.
I mean the vocals, Rob Halford sounds ten times better on his solo efforts. And Maiden has only done one great album, Somewhere in Time..
Now to answer my question. Depeche Mode ARE more timeless. Their material has aged with grace and dignity. Even though Neil Tennant has got a voice to kill for Enjoy the Silence simply shreds.
No wonder why Timats Johan Edlund is crazy about them.

I prefer Depeche Mode. I always have actually. I've been a fan of theirs since I was 10 years old.

Depeche Rules... Pet Shop Boys are stools, And Maiden and Priest KICK ALL KINDS OF ASS!!!
If you think Somewhere in Time is great then you have to like 7th Son, Powerslave, Piece Of Mind & Number of The Beast... Because they all rule...

I know you´ll disagree but for me X-factor is more exciting than those mentioned above. Somewhere in Time is actually better and more timeless than Awaken the Gurdian. I´ll probably dig Demolition more than any other Priest album too.. Depeche Mode only did two worthy albums btw. Black Celebration and Violator and Enjoy the Silence must be their best.. along with Sinead O´Connors Nothing Compares To U the soundtrack to my life back then; It's been seven hours and fifteen days Since you took your love away I go out every night and sleep all day Since you took your love away Since you been gone I can do whatever I want I can see whomever I choose I can eat my dinner in a fancy restaurant But nothing I said nothing can take away these blues `Cause nothing compares Nothing compares to you

Is the original any better? Allow me to be skeptical (and pessimistic) about that.

Prince wrote it, but Sinead was the first to perform it

I have to disagree about the Depeche Mode albums. Have you heard Depeche Mode's CD that came out in 05??? That whole thing was amazing beyond compare

Prince wrote it, but Sinead was the first to perform it Wrong. Actually, The Family was the first to record it on their first (and only) album on Paisley Park records. (1985) Jellybean Johnson played drums, Terry Lewis on bass, some guy Paul Peterson and Wendy Melvoin's sister (and Prince's love-interest at the time) Susannah shared vocals, but obviously, this was just another Prince vehicle at the time. Meaning he wrote, produced, and probably even played most of the instruments as well... There are some pretty funky tracks on here, like 'Mutiny' or "High Fashion" but overal, the album' pales to the likes of Sheila E's first release at the time. The whole thing imploded when Peterson refused to tour after the filming of the disasterous 'Under a Cherry Moon'.... Still, I personally prefer this version vastly over Shinead's. It's a song from a male point of view.

Well, little Aaron i disagree, why should i be less selective just ´cause it isn´t metal.
Haven´t spend that much time listening to Playing the Angel, but i can´t compare it to their older stuff. The melodies are pretty poor and grey. I´m sure it has some excellent songs if i give it more time, which i will, but when they´re trying to sound like NIN, it´s just doesn´t work. With Teeth (NIN) came the same year and it´s probably twice as good.
Have you heart Host with Paradisle Lost by the way? Didn´t think so, but you should. They copied Mode´s sound completely but it worked ´cause the melodies are fantastic and the vocals superb, so i can´t complain really. Sometimes the original gets beaten by the copies.
