Absolutely no mention of Moonspell anywhere That being said, I really enjoyed Memorial by Moonspell. The newest release by the Portuguese Gothic Metal band was definitely a good one. A stand out track off that album was "Upon the Blood of Men." Being the Power Metal fan I am, I also have to mention Rocket Ride by Edguy. It was different from Edguy's normal style, but overall it was a good album. A Twist in the Myth by Blind Guardian was a really good album as well. Sadly, I wasn't able to see them live when they came up to Massachusetts (I live in Maine, couldn't get to Worcester ). The fourth (and last one that I can think of) is the obvious one, and that is A Matter of Life and Death by Iron Maiden. Now, my favorite Maiden album is Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, and when an album makes me have the shivers like I get when I listen to Seventh Son, then it's good in my book. I would have a fifth, but...I haven't listened to anything else released in '06.

Good choice on the Maiden album. Seventh Son is amazing. And their new one is pretty darn good too. I'm a huge Maiden fan (if you didn't guess from my avatar) and have all their studio albums, and both of those are up there for my favorites for sure (my personal fave is Dance of Death). Ahh, gotta love 'em. -Kerrick

Raiderblack: Mercenary.. is that power metal with a death singer.. i´m not too excited about that.. i take it you don´t like Christ Illusion, have you checked your ears lately? I haven't even bought Christ Illusion yet. Suprising because I liked God Hates Us All. And Mercenary IS INCREDIBLE!!! Hard to pin these guys down to any style. But like Ben says they are always heavy!!

Am i the only one who thinks Somewhere in Time is mucho better than Sevent..." I mean the melodies are crystal sharp the vocals stellar. Seventh.." is their most popular behind Number of the Beast but i´m numb when i´m listening to it, for me it´s a very stupid record i´m afraid.
The new Moonspell seems hot but there´s lot´s of other records waiting to be own so it has to wait.. Celtic Frost, Lamb of God, SYL, Mastodon, blah blah blah. This new chick is anorectic, remove.

...and I've finally come up with a fifth for 2006. I would definitely have to say Sodom's self-titled. This release from the German Thrash Metal band (I have the limited first pressing of only 1,000 copies) takes Thrash to a much darker level, sometimes even using Death Metal-style vocals in some parts of a few songs. Amazing, to say the least

I'm still conflicted about MC2.
Then again, I loved Tribe and HitNF and PL

Since it did come out at the very end of 06--I really like the new Killswitch album. I would rank it highly.

1. Vanden Plas - Christ 0. Wow, their best album yet, and it made me read a 1500-page book. 2. Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance. Almost becoming a guilty pleasure, but I can't help it :/ 3. Mindflow - Mind Over Body. Late surprise contender.
