I'm a huge fan of the older albums, I still say "Somewhere in Time" is my favorite overall. But all the old ones are awesome IMO, even the first 2 with Dianno...those are right there with '#', "Piece...", and "Powerslave. "Seventh Son..." is pretty good but I would say the curve began going down at that point. Although I actually like "Fear of the Dark" a bit better than that one even. Need to re-aquire NPftD at some point, remember it being decent at least. Haven't given the Blaze albums a chance, not because I don't want to...just never have picked them up. I admit I'm not chompin' at the bit with no Bruce, but I'll go in with an open mind someday. The reunion albums are pretty good, but like I said...I'll always compare to the old stuff and they'll unfortunately fall short. I think if they went a whole new direction(where I don't know?), it might be different. But sticking with basically the same formula makes it too easy to say 'that kinda sounds like something from that older album, but not as awesome as that song was.'

I'd have to agree with you about the past two but BNW was pretty damn good. Without looking at the writing credits I would say Murray needs to do some more writing and they need to try to break away some from their ' trademark ' sound, maybe a new producer who could ' force' them to try some different ideas

Played the new album at lunch over a few days this week, probably was trying a bit too hard at first with it. Put it down for awhile and it sounded much better this time, maybe the headphones helped too. While it's still not gonna rank with their best IMO, it's a very good album.

Dude, the new album is great. I definitely find myself listening to it more than the others, but that may be just because it's newer. Either way, I love it. And I can't wait until the "Rock in Rio" dvd comes in. It's supposed to be great. -Kerrick

What song would you suggest to someone who finds Iron Maiden "boring and unimaginative?" A friend of mine listened to two songs off of Brave New World and didn't like it. I was thinking of using maybe either "Wasted Years" or "Run to the Hills," or perhaps even "Hallowed Be Thy Name." Any suggestions?

Hallowed Be Thy Name surely. Then try Wrathchild, Remember Tomorrow, and something else. If you have time, please check out www.maidencartoons.com.br for animated adventures of Eddie from the s/t to Fear of the Dark. It would be nice to see adventures in the Bailey and reunion eras

I agree with Ben minus the "Remember Tomorrow" song. I like it a lot but if your friend says they're boring, I'd give him/her a slight bit faster song. Also DiAnno only sang on two albums therefore doesn't really accurately portray the majority of Iron Maiden IMO. I'd definitely do "Hallowed be thy Name" and maybe something newer like "Dance of Death" which is a real good one, not repetitive or anything, and maybe something that's a bit faster like "Aces High" or "Deja Vu." "Wrathchild" is good and for the DiAnno years, maybe consider "Murders in the Rue Morgue" also. Hope this is helpful. I'm sure your friend will be on his/her way to becoming a total Maiden fan in no time! -Kerrick

A couple of great tunes to recommend. The Evil that Men Do, Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner, Transylvania, and Fear of the Dark.

I appreciate the recs, really I do, and I've heard many of the songs recommended, but I think she's beyond recommendation.
Personally, I think that anybody who judges an entire band's style based on two songs off a brilliant album (Brave New World) doesn't deserve to hear anything else by said band. I could be wrong, but come on! How dumb is THAT?
Edit: One more thing:
CAUUUUUUGHT SOMEWHERE IN TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME CAUUUUUUGHT SOMEWHERE IN TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME CAUUUUUUGHT SOMEWHERE IN TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner Although I don't much care for the song of the name, that's maybe one of my favorite poems ever.

I'm wondering why there is so much hate over the song "Can I Play with Madness." It's a good song, it doesn't deserved to be hated on! ...can anybody explain to me why it gets hated on?

It's boringly chorus-heavy. Bruce is clearly straining.

It's boringly chorus-heavy. Bruce is clearly straining. I guess I can understand what you mean. It seems like the kind of song that would be radio-friendly (not that that's necessarily a bad thing). I still enjoyed it. Though, I'm the kind of person who would listen to anything once. I'm also pretty easy-going, and I like just about anything ;D

Eh, it's an alright song. I don't think Bruce seems "strained," but to me the song doesn't really fit with the rest of the album. It's too poppy and goofy sounding. The rest of the album is heavier and more serious IMO. It's still classic Maiden though and that's good enough for me! -Kerrick
