I remember thinking "Paschendale" was a great song, think I just let it get lost amongst a lot of other new stuff at the time. I'll break it out tomorrow. I think my favorite album is still(and has been since it came out) "Somewhere in Time". Probably not the majority favorite, but man I love that album. I like all the older albums most, "7th Son..." through "Fear of the Dark" all being decent...although I like FotD more than most. Not too familiar actually with the Blaze albums, have heard some at some point. BNW and DoD both need more time from me, was getting into BNW awhile back.

Mmm... Somewhere in Time is awesome. I love "Deja Vu," "Sea of Madness," and "Stranger in a Strange Land." Totally great songs. BNW is a great album too. My favorites are "Dream of Mirrors" (I actually dreampt in black and white once, it was way weird), "Out of the Silent Planet," and "The Wicker Man." As for the Blaze era, they're pretty good, but not great. Not for the casual Maiden fan, but if you're anything more than that, then you should definitely get 'em. IMO they're both better than the two previous albums, No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark. -Kerrick

19/06/2006 IRON MAIDEN ANNOUNCE BRAND NEW STUDIO ALBUM Iron Maiden plan to release their new studio album entitled A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH, in early September. The band started writing songs at the end of 2005 after a short break from their hugely successful festival appearances in Europe and the USA. After Christmas the songs were completed and rehearsed when the band then got together with producer Kevin 'Caveman' Shirley at Sarm West Studios in London to start work on recording the backing tracks. Kevin Shirley has now co-produced three of the bands studio albums alongside Steve Harris, as well as two of their recent Live DVD's and albums. From this the working relationship between Kevin and the band seems to get stronger and stronger. Says Kevin, 'The Beast is back! I feel from the outset we all clicked on this one. We spent two months in the studio, from Go to Whoa - from Nicko's 'tubs up' to final mixes and sequenced master! That's a tiny gestation period for an album. Producing Iron Maiden is like sitting in the head and driving one of those mammoth automatons from Star Wars or Saturday morning cartoons! And there's nothing that can stop it!' 'I feel incredibly privileged to have been around to see this album born and breathe life. There have been only a couple of occasions in my career when the ENTIRE process of recording felt so complete - and it is on display here.' As on previous projects all of the tracks were performed live and together in one room. No click tracks or computer tightening or manipulation has happened at any stage of the recording. Says Steve Harris,' I think in many ways this has been the easiest album in terms of recording that we've ever done. The whole process of writing through to recording was very natural. I think in terms of the material we've also pushed our boundaries yet again and I think it will please our fans but also really surprise a lot of people as well. The sound we've managed to get is very powerful for a Maiden record and all of us have pushed ourselves in our own ways to create something that we're all immensely proud of and I think working as quickly as we did with Kevin really was part of that process. We simply can't wait to take this out on the road. We've played some great shows and had a lot fun recently introducing some of our older songs to a new generation of fans. However for us personally we're incredibly excited about getting out and performing these new tracks.' Says Bruce Dickinson,'This album has to be our best since working with Kevin. There is such a wide scope of musicianship on this album and in parts this album is truly epic. I thought with the likes of Paschendale from the last studio album that we could only hope to surpass that but having now heard the album back as well as sitting with a few select people and hearing their reactions as well I truly believe we have managed it. Every one of us has put everything into this record and it's really paid off. However we've had such fun making it that it's almost difficult to believe what we've managed to achieve in the time it took.' The full track listing is as below. A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH 1. Different Worlds (Smith/Harris) 4.17 2. These Colours Don't Run (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 6.52 3. Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 8.44 4. The Pilgrim (Gers/Harris) 5.07 5. The Longest Day (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 7.48 6. Out Of the Shadows (Dickinson/Harris) 5.36 7. The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg (Murray/Harris) 7.21 8. For The Greater Good of God (Harris) 9.24 9. Lord Of Light (Smith/Harris/Dickinson) 7.23 10. The Legacy (Gers/Harris) 9.20 The band have just announced tour dates in Japan and the majority of the European dates at the end of 2006 are already sold out. However please check the details of all of these on www.ironmaiden.com for latest information on ticket availability and for details of tickets just released from Production holds.

You may have missed it on the first page when kerrick posted the new album info the other day cyclopsss. He actually resurrected this thread! I mean a Maiden thread with not even a full page till the other day... And it's been here for like 17 months... LOL! Well, now there's news at least and I did go back to DoD the last couple days. The break helped some, I would say there's several quality songs with at least a couple being high Maiden caliber. But a couple still don't do much for me, I guess with this band it's a bit of a let down when it's not a fully great album...they've always been an album band for me. Put it on and let it go. But hey, they have a great catalogue IMO and the new one could be a comeback. That's not to say this one won't still grow on me more too, some albums take forever before they completely click. #rockin# #hardrock#

Mmm... Somewhere in Time is awesome. I love "Deja Vu," "Sea of Madness," and "Stranger in a Strange Land." Totally great songs. -Kerrick I think "Lonliness of..." has always been one of my favorites from that one, but as I said earlier...it's an album that just kills from beginning to end IMO. I had a weird LSD experience listening to "Alexander the Great" way back when, can't really explain it...but the beginning kind of march thing was playing and I was looking up at the stars just flyin'... #youareloco# #candle# #loldevil#

"The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner" is a couple of my friends' favorite from that album. They both ran track/cross country in high school so they can relate to that one. I used to really not like it, then it really grew on me. Very cool song. -Kerrick

Ha ha, dude, that is one way cool picture. It's different than the typical Iron Maiden covers, but I like it a lot.

Maiden released their new single a little while ago, called "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg." You can watch the video for it on IronMaiden.com. It's alright. Not the greatest, but has the potential to grow on you. -Kerrick

Oh yeah, that has a ton of potential...especially for a mid-pace song. I can't get over how long this album looks, just quick math scanning the track lengths and it's gotta be around 75 minutes! I'm real excited about this... #rockin# #git#

I thought it was great. I like that song better than anything on BNW.. Oh, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one. I mean, "Dream of Mirrors," "The Nomad," and "Out of the Silent Planet" are some of my favorite Maiden songs ever. This new one isn't bad, I just think it's more of a filler than anything else. Although I'm still way exited about the new album. Will definitely have my copy reserved as soon as I possibly can . -Kerrick

Ok the new one is out, I may have missed any threads about it, would do you think ?? I'm giving it a B+, seems to have a lot of great ' parts ' of songs, production is great but song arrangements seem to go awry at times, not sure what my favorite would be maybe ' brighter suns'

I went back to that earlier this week, found myself groovin' and headbangin'(or nodding maybe) more than I have before. Several songs really stand out, probably a few that aren't all that great. But overall a pretty good album. As hard as I try not to, always comparing the new ones to the old ones...

We may have gone over this before... but what are your favorite of their old stuff? I love Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. The Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind are classics as well. I'm not that big of a fan of the DiAnno stuff, although Killers is a pretty strong album IMO. It's all awesome though. -Kerrick
