There is something morbidly funny (to me, at least) about the way the French government is responding to the rioting. Restoring order "is our number one responsibility", says the Prime Minister, but he rejects the idea of bringing in the army saying, "We are not at that point." Just how many more days of rioting does there have to be before they "get to that point"? No way that would happen here in America. Any sane state governor would call up National Guard troops LONG before any sort of rioting would enter into its 2nd week!
Something that's peculiar about this story is how the media reporting seems to be trying to avoid offending Muslims. Even though it's painfully obvious (judging by the arrests made) that the perpetrators could be none other than the children of North African immigrants (who are almost 100% Muslim), the media mostly reports them as "youths". Compare that to the coverage of Middle East violence where the perps are always identified by their ethnic, religious, and/or political affiliation.
