I want Sam Alito.
Most everybody else would be a major disappointment. There's probably a handful (Luttig, Wilkinson, etc) who would only be a mild disappointment.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't a current member be elevated to chief justice rather than the new guy? Maybe none of them want the position? Just seemed a little odd compared to your normal 'promote from within/seniority' standards.
Otherwise, I guess I don't care much since there's nothing I can do about it. Just more reasons for the parties to bicker and bitch right now, gets annoying.

Just seemed a little odd compared to your normal 'promote from within/seniority' standards. Nothing odd about it. In fact, there are no standards for "seniority" or "promote from within". Where do I get this? From this clicky clicky where it says that only 5 out of 17 nominees for Chief Justice were already a member of the High Court.

I've never looked into it, while I see that it's the standard...I still wonder why that is?

I've never looked into it, while I see that it's the standard...I still wonder why that is? There's no more immediate and powerful way for a sitting president to influence the future court. Joe

Alito may be an even bigger shithead than Roberts. I already sent in my petition to my Senator and representatives to have this nominee BLOCKED and halted, but I doubt it'll do any good. Alito seems to be an anti-abortion born again christian nut who's also a corporation hog. I ask again why can't Dubbya be honourable for once and kill himself?
