Might as well start a new one.
Like I said in the other thread, "Coma Divine" is one of my favorite live albums now...the production is perfect which is no surprise from Wilson. But I really like how they brought those songs from TSMS and "Signify" to life. The studio versions were good of course, but I go back to that album more when I want to hear those songs. Chris Maitlan was amazing on the drums, when he kicks it into gear in the middle of "The Sky Moves Sideways"...un-friggin'-believable... #drummer#
I still think "In Absentia" is my favorite studio album, but LS and SD come very close. "Deadwing" is real good, but not quite up to par with those IMO.
I still like "The Start of Something Beautiful" Ben, you can't convince me otherwise...LOL!

I love the bassline from SOSB... it's not techincally impressive or anything, but it's really effective and full of mood and groove. It's great. Deadwing was my first PT album so it's never going to be something that I'm not going to enjoy, but I think LS is my favourite. What's Stupid Dream like, generally?

SD isn't much different from LS, it's really hard for me to pick which one of those I like better...both great.
SD has a couple songs that are a bit more pychedelic Beatles style rather than the more pop Beatles that LS has a couple of. One of the best off SD is "Don't Hate Me", a fairly mellow one and it goes into this jazz part with a flute and then sax...awesome.
For the most part there's just a bunch of good melodies, guitar, keys and lyrics. Much like all their albums.
Agree about SOSB, I like the mix of real ambient with just a little crunch and distortion. Then the piano at the end is great. "Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here" has to be the best from that album though, lyrically, a little vocal from Mikael from Opeth and I believe the mellow solo after the jam is him too. Great song... ;D

Stupid Dream is like Lightbulb Sun, except there are GOOD songs on there. Hold off on finding it, since SW has in on queue for his PT deluxe redesign reissue program, then to LS.
Btw, I do think PT's first 2 albums get unjustly neglected. On the Sundays of Life and Up the Downstaris contain quite a good amount of stuff to soak inside. Voyage 34 is tied to the Up the Downstairs album

"On his 34th journey, he met himself coming up the downstair" Or something like that, listening to that song brings back memories of tripping like a fool...ahh good times... Not as big a fan of LS Ben? I love the title track, "She'sMovedOn", "Last Chance to Evacuate...", "Hatesong" and "Russia on Ice". The last is one of my favorites, the explosion of the drums at the end is killer. SD might be a shade better for me, but it's more like the 2 albums combine for a great double album. Seth

Last Chance is just plain scary. The whole thing is about that loopy suicide cult with the Hale-Bop comet, including audiotape of the bald wide eyed leader. Otherwise, yeah. LS is just SD outtakes. Hatesong is fun in concert. Nice groovin bassline

I'm copying this from the Bravewords Board, even though Seth and Marv have probably seen it:

Glad you reminded me, I started reading it the other day on BW. Just finished it, good read...he was actually able to keep it relatively short compared to what could be said to a newcomer. That's why "Stars Die" is so good, I do still want the old albums...but that has kept me satisfied with info and songs for awhile.

Anyone see that Mark Wahlberg movie, Four Brothers? Just watched it last night, real good action/revenge flick IMO...but the coolest thing was in a bar scene, "Shallow" from DW was playing in the background!

The "Arriving Somewhere" DVD is great, but I haven't got through the whole thing yet...hopefully today I'll finish the concert and check out the extras.
The production is excellent as was expected, can't say enough about Gavin Harrison's drumming...holy shit that dude is great! Like the little stuff he adds in, and he adds a ton of cool licks on "Hatesong"...all over the kit... #drummer# SW is a good front man, this is the first I've seen of anything live from them...will have to watch for them to tour over here again.
Too bad they didn't add some of the older songs from "Coma Divine" on here, would love to see them done live like on that CD. But it's a good set list.

"01-31-2007 Following two album playback events in New York and at Abbey Road in London, the track listing of the new Porcupine Tree album "Fear of a Blank Planet" has been revealed:
1. Fear of a Blank Planet (7.2 2. My Ashes (5.07) 3. Anesthetize (17.42) 4. Sentimental (5.26) 5. Way Out of Here (7.37) 6. Sleep Together (7.2
The album is set for April release through Roadrunner in Europe, Atlantic in the US, and WHD Entertainment in Japan. It's likely that both the stereo CD and 5.1 Europe, Atlantic in the US, and WHD Entertainment in Japan. It's likely that both the stereo CD and 5.1 surround sound DVDA will be packaged together as standard.
Please note that a version of the album currently listed on several mail order sites in Japan with an additional track included in the running order, and supposedly coming out in March, categorically does not exist, so do not order it!"Good news! Wonder if the slightly longer track lengths mean a return to a more spacey/proggy style? Either way, can't wait. BTW, anyone who doesn't have the "Arriving Somewhere" DVD needs to get it now! Absolutely awesome show, period.

Ooohhh, that could be excellent... ;D As much as I like "Deadwing", I'd like to hear a return to the older sound...but yet updated with some of the dark and heavy of "In Absentia".

Well, I don't know if I have a complete handle on "Fear of a Blank Planet" yet...but getting there. Has some excellent moments, but a little more time will tell if it suffers from not being a complete masterpiece like "Stupid Dream" and "In Absentia". For now I'll say it won't reach that status, but it could surpass "Deadwing" I think. One big step up from DW is Harrison's drumming, thought it was pretty tame on that album...then watching the DVD I'm thinking why the hell didn't he show off on the album like that? This one has the kind of drumming that(like the DVD) says 'here's the next Neil Peart'...IMO anyway.
