Been listening to 'pursuit of the sun & allure of the earth'. While I definitely like it, it seems to be lacking in someway that I can't seem to pin down. Any thoughts?

I love the cd. Reminds me of a smarter Godsmack meeting Agalloch or Ulver, possibly Opeth.

Oh, It definitely reminds me of Opeth and I think that is where the problem lies, a lesser Opeth or am I just being overly critical? Is it the production or are the heavier parts missing something?Or maybe I just need more time with it?

How do you pronounce that?...with the long Y like why-pres, or like yee-pres? I would guess the first.
They talk a lot about them on the Opeth board, usually positively...probably in that vein then. Do they have long song structures also?
Some of My Dying Bride, "The Dreadful Hours" reminds me of Opeth too. That's some pretty cool stuff they do, but really need to be in the mood for that real depressing sound. Sounds good when they do get heavy.

got me on the pronunciation? I know it's the name of a park near David Gold's (the main dude) house in Toronto. Pronunciations can be funny. You go on pronuncing it in your head then one day you hear it spoken somewhere and go "oh! that's how you say that !
The longest song is 9:19 so I wouldn't really say the Opeth connection is in length, just the song structure and the whole ' vibe'.
Yeah, it does have a depressing feel to it, but I dig that 'vibe'. Does that mean I'm depressed? Yeah probably. Was listening to Katatonia's 'last fair deal' today, Can't understand why you can't get into them more Seth. Must be you 're too 'happy'? Try it on headphones some time, awesome songwriting IMO

Maybe because you don't speak French?
Remember, Canada was founded by French Traders, not by English or Spanish wanks.

Well, I also didn't realize there was an accent mark over the e...that may have helped. But no, I don't speak French...but when Marv said they were from Canada, that could've been another clue.

So I also like the depressed feel of some music. I have to give "Last Fair Deal..." more listens, at first I thought I liked it better than "Viva..", but that one has grown on me more. I wish I had more chances to use headphones...if I wait awhile longer, I should be able to get a pod for a bit cheaper. Probably something I'll need soon. Seth

I've had this album for awhile now, shortly after this thread started and I read more about them in other forums. I haven't rushed to post my opinion I guess because while I liked it, it wasn't really blowing me away.
Well, just in the last couple weeks something has clicked on this album and I love it. I appreciated the philisophical lyrics from the get-go, and also liked the vocals...but the whole thing just came together. The way they layer the vocals is awesome, clean over clean, growls over clean, growls over growls over clean...etc... #rockin#
For some reason I think after I picked up Pelican's new album at the store awhile ago, I was prompted to go back to it hearing some similarities. The Pelican is slowly growing, but this album is excellent. I saw some news of a new one coming soon.

Can anyone tell me where to find "Pursuit..." for a reasonable price (new)? I know it's out of print and it's pretty hard to find anywhere that doesn't have it on backorder. Amazon.com has it but it won't come in for at least another month and I'd rather not wait that long. I tried Froogle and Yahoo shopping already with no luck. The End, Red Stream, Dark Symphonies, Deepdiscountcd.com, and others don't have it either... Thanks! -Kerrick

Quote from David Gold back in July... "It will be repressed sometime in 2007, after Woods 3 is out. We want to re-work the audio first (remix and remaster it, just like we did with "Against the Seasons"). It all takes time. We do have some cool ideas for the repackaging, + adding some very fun bonus stuff. Be patient."Some of the guys in the thread were saying they found used copies in stores, might get lucky? #waiting#

Hey thanks, maybe I'll just wait until then, rather than wait for the old one to come in from Amazon.
