Kerrik's got the point. More to the topic, we have a volunteer military. It should stay that way forever. The war can support itself. Any government that does actions so bad that people do not want to join the military is not a government worth saving. Let it crumble. Besides my friends that are in the military want to be there, they believe they're doing a right good thing. I do not want people who do not believe that watching their backs. It's crumbling, or has already crumbled. You may have friends that want to be there, but its no secret that the poor primarily fight our wars. Rangel is promoting skin in the game, because we now see what happens without it. If your invested in a cause then your actions become much more aligned with the interests of the troops. Jim Webb is a perfect example with his son in Iraq right now. Another example is when an Ohio woman running for Congress who is an Iraq veteran that returned with no legs is accused by her Republican challenger of "Cutting and Running". Sigh, what do you say to that? More Republicans need to stand up and fight, or get the fuck out of the war room.

Are you saying that the military is full of liberals? Ridiculous I say!! ;D No. The military GI's are made up of mainly Repubilicans from the lower IQ states that are manipulated by draft dodgers leading this country. They stay Republican because they are told that if they don't stay the course off a bridge then they are being killed for nothing. PS: I'm not a politician, so I don't hide behind the 'support the troops' banner. If your in this military and you end someone's life for an immoral cause (for example, a fraudulant war of choice, aka IRAQ) then you had better have a better excuse than "i took orders" come judgement day. I'm sure your evangelical party members will agree...

The Lower IQ States? Pretty pompous eh... I'm pretty sure the military is represented heavily of most states. And I'm pretty sure IQ has nothing to do with knowing right from wrong. And how protecting the Iraqi's from the terrorists, death squads and Saddam's merry band of thieves is immoral I'll never know. Oh by the way, the "elected" government of Iraq wants us there. It would be fucking immoral to abandon them.... The only benefit from losing in Iraq is so that all of yous from the higher IQ states can say I told you so.... That is the goal isn't it?

haha,
point: the war is wrong counterpoint: no it's not
...time passes...
point: hey, remember when I said the war was wrong? I was right! counterpoint: no you weren't
The reason a proper debate never went down is because no one had a principled stance. "The war will go bad" is not a point of view, it's a prediction. And if you turn out correct, it still says nothing about whether or not the war was a good idea in the first place. Likewise, the right-wing reasons to go to war were never much more than "Saddam is bad." Again, it might be true, but what does that tell us about war?
You could in 2002 make a great case for going to war, based on sound, rational principles. You still can. Same goes for the case against war. But you need those sound, rational principles, otherwise what are we talking about?

Agreed. I still say right cause, WRONG TARGET COUNTRY.
Had we attacked North Korea immediately after Afghanistan, we might have had something.

Here's a prediction: Saddam will never govern a country or commit genocide again. Southpark movie ftw.
