I know you said buy blindly, but I'm curious since I haven't heard them what to expect. Ray sings on this one right? What is their overall sound? Spank ya... Seth

Well, last time I hung out with Mr. Alder, he played a bit of it for me. Let's just say that it is quite amazing. The music is top-notch. Technical as all get out. Ray sounds friggin' fantastic, as usual. BUT, I've never heard his voice with this style before. It was stunning. My personal take, based on what I heard, is that this CD takes Redemption up quite a few notches from their first release. Much, much better overall. I don't say "Buy Blindly!!" lightly

Seth If you know ANYTHING about the Fates Board, you should know who Redemption is. (the name comes from NVD's favorite movie "The Shawshank Redemption")

Ya know, I had a pretty big collection of music when I was younger...a ton of stuff from the 60s through the 80s. Not everything out there, but decent. When life hit me I dropped off my music buying almost completely for many years and just started getting back into the swing a few years ago. So I don't know every band that ever existed and every fact about them. I take music seriously, but not that much.

NVD is Nick Van Dyk, who was a contributing board member for most of its life. Used to be our connection to FW via Ray, until Daryl fucked up and both Colleen and Dennis had to come rescue the place from oblivion.

I dropped out of the scene, in terms of purchases, until recently, Seth. Lots to continue to catch up on, which does indeed suck. But, the fact remains that we're catching up, eh? I've been clipping Shawshank, Ben Be on the lookout for some audio snipets during next weeks show. A couple of my favorites: "Put your trust in the Lord. Your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank!" "I have no idea to this day, what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I like to think they were singing about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared! Higher and farther than anybody in a great place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls desolve away. And for the briefest of moments, every last man at Shawshank felt free. It pissed the warden off something awful." "Couldn't play something good, could ya? Hank Williams Jr? Well, they broke the door down before I could start taking requests." *sigh* One of my favorite films also I think I need to find out if Nick got the link I sent him to this forum. lol

But also frustrating at times realizing how much there is and having to decide future purchases. And "Shawshank..." is one great movie. Damn near anything with Freeman is, not to take away from Robbin's performance...both excellent. Seth

I remember having drinks a few years back in Santa Monica with Ray, Nick, and Nick's lovely wife Jill, and Nick was all freaked out because he couldn't think of a name for his project. I think I remember suggesting 'Analysis' but Nick, being a movie kinda guy, went for that approach.
The first Redemption CD is quite good. Rick Mythiasin on vocals. Not crazy about that guy, but he did a good job. He sounds dead-on like John Arch in a few spots. Can't wait to hear the new one, but I like getting floored when I buy it. No internet sneak-peeks this time. If Ben likes it, it's either incredible, or incredibly bad, and I can't envision NVD doing something bad.
BTW, what did you motherfuckers do to scare Nick away all those years ago?

Nick had a disagreement with Shape,
over something stupid I still don't understand.

Ya know, I bought this album without hearing a thing, mostly because a friend recommended it to me, and of course, Ray Adler was singing. Not really my thing. It sounds like Images and Words era Dream Theater wtih Ray Adler on vocals.
Not that I mind that, but it isn't grabbing me. Much prefer Ray singing with FW and Engine.
